学習院大学に残されているもの [はけの道]
学習院大学の座禅部の道場 無着堂 から坂を上ったところに
鳩魂碑 と書かれた石碑が建っています。
これは昭和１３年（１９３８年）に学習院輔仁会伝書鳩部の卒業生が死んでいった鳩の魂を鎮めるために建てたものなのだそうです。
今は伝書鳩部はなく この碑が残っているだけです。
鳩魂碑の少し先には
平らな広場があって 江戸時代ここには珍々亭と呼ばれていた富士見茶屋がありました。
今は木が生い茂っていて富士山は見えませんでしたが 目白崖線（バッケ）の崖上なので見晴らしは良いわけで実際 初代歌川広重の 富士三十六景 の 雑司かや不二見茶や（ぞうしがやふじみぢゃや） はここからの眺めを描いたものなのだそうです。
この広場にも石碑が建っています。
表面が風化して何が書いてあるか良くわかりませんが これは雑司ヶ谷の俳人 金子直徳 が建てた芭蕉の句碑で
目にかゝる 時や殊更 五月富士
と書かれています。
芭蕉はこの句を箱根を越えたあたりで 五月の雨の季節期待していなかった富士の姿が雄大に見えた時に詠んだもので 実際にここで詠んだものではありません。
構内をさらに東に進むと木立の間に
乃木館と呼ばれている木造の建物があります。
この建物は乃木希典が学習院の院長のとき全寮制を導入し 学生たちと寝起きをともにしたその寮の一部が残されたものです。
その隣には
乃木が自費で造った中央に榊が植えられている前方後円墳の形をした塚があります。
これは 榊壇 とよばれ明治天皇がここを訪れた記念に造られたものです。
正門近くの構内にも
東別館と呼ばれている木造の校舎が残されていました。
そうそう 今使われている校舎の前に咲いていた
この花 おそらく山茶花だと思うのですが 花の色、葉の形はほかでは見たことがない上品なもので さすが学習院という印象でした。

伝書鳩は自分の家に帰ってくる習性を利用していますので 残念ながらお友達の家には手紙を届けてくれません。
